It’s that time of year (well, after a couple of delays) when the F1 season rolls around and consumes the television every 2 weeks or so at various times of the day.

Nothing really ground breaking in the rule changes for this season, but it’s good to see a reintroduction of the KERS, and a statement saying team orders are allowed again this year. A whole list of the changes can be viewed here: F1 2011 Rule Changes

As usual there will be a predictions league run over on murphyzForum, and this also has a new addition.

Same as in previous year, you need to predict the top 10 drivers of each race along with who will perform the fastest lap and how many drivers will retire. For an added few bonus points you now get to predict how many times the safety car will be deployed in a particular race – it’ll be a brave person who puts this at more than 2!

A perfect score per race would be 48 points, but it’s unlikely anyone will reach that golden number.

Also new to this season will be prizes for the 3 forum members at the top of the prediction league at the end of the season. As of writing this, the prizes are still to be announced, but if I fail to find any suitable Formula 1 related goodies that would be suitable for anyone who is to win, I may just provide an Amazon/iTunes voucher alternative. Should I happen to win the funds will go to a charity of my choice.

Good luck to all who enter, and welcome to any new people who are joining us this year. I hope it’s a good season.

Head on over to the forum now to make your predictions.

Farmyard Media

chicken_avatar I’m currently working on bringing back the Book, Movie and Music forums for Cow & Chicken, Pig & Goat, and Duck & Donkey. They went offline a couple of years ago, partially due to a malicious virus that hit the server and ripped through a lot of the sites hosted, and mostly due to neglect.

I haven’t read a book in ages, but I’m hopeful that it may get me back into it a little.

So far working on the relaunch is going well. One of the major flaws of the original three forums were that they were just that, three forums. It was a natural course to take as they were run independently from each other, even though they were under the ‘Farmyard Media’ umbrella, and because Cow and Chicken were launched before the other two so it was easier to do three of them separately.

I’ve managed to go through the painstaking task of combining the three forums into one so that they use the same database – though feel I may have lost one or two users and posts along the way, but this now means that when you’re signed up and logged into one forum you are also signed up and logged into the others. Good for everyone but the administrators really, as we of course use the different identities to post in the different forums.

So, that part is done and finished as of tonight – so I’m having a celebratory drink. The next step is to redo all of the actual themes which is going to take some time, and is an extra learning curve as I haven’t really used the phpbb3 forum software before other than to set up a simple private forum for a residential community.

Then I think work needs to be spent on riddle.me, of which I’ve had several ideas of late and am looking forward to developing.

To Do list:

Just so I can keep track of things that I want to do over the next week or so, in no particular order.

1) Figure out the next MENEFT puzzles to release this weekend (I should also try and create a few more puzzles as I haven’t done any for weeks).
2) Write new blog entry for Sir Listalot (first $100 Google adsense payment came through last week so I must keep it up to date).
3) Develop a Facebook application.
4) Not get drunk tomorrow night.
5) Watch 31 episodes of The X-Files/The Lone Gunmen and then go see the film.
6) Hand keys back to landlord for old flat.
7) Cook a proper meal.

Formula 1 The Formula 1 2008 season starts next weekend, and I’ve updated the forum predictions to include the new races and drivers for this year.

As with previous years, you get to predict the top 8 finishers for each race, who will do the fastest lap and how many drivers will retire from each race.

The timing for some of the races may not be quite right just now, but will be amended nearer the time. Generally submissions for each race can be done as far as you like in advance, but need to be submitted ten minutes before the start of each race. It’s probably best to do this after the final qualifiers but before the race itself.

You need to be a member of the forum to take part, as we obviously have to know who you are to be included on the leader board.

murphyzRiddles.com
I’ve also released the first set of riddles for murphyzRiddles.com – which has a few relatively easy and a few not so easy riddles for people to ponder over. Though this site will probably be expanded upon in several ways in the future, this release has a basic aim of being a place where someone who has a liking for riddles can kill a little time. There’s no save function so if you leave the page and return you need to redo them. The basic aim for me is to be able to monitor the type of traffic it gets (if any), which will help me with a few other projects I have down the line. If you care to point it out to any riddle liking friends, or perhaps to submit to the likes of StumbleUpon, then that would be appreciated.

No help for the riddles will be offered in this blog, but there will be a section as and when required on the forum.

Riddle me this

A couple of years ago I had a huge interest in online riddling. When a place called Net Riddle first opened there were a lot of people online looking for a place to assist in the solving of the puzzles, which is how my forum took off all those years ago.

At the time I wrote several riddles myself with the intention of releasing my own contest, one of many projects that I’ve started over the years and not completed. This year I aim to do something about it and complete a few of them…hopefully.

So, back I have gone to the riddles that I was creating. I’ve dug out an old Flash interface that I was working on, and have found the same problems exist now in that I’m not proficient enough in the use of flash and, moreso, in using actionscript to make it talk to a database….but am slowly getting around that.

I think I can quite easily get over the whole coding aspect and get something online in the near future that would serve as a little entertainment value to some people…but I have a much bigger problem.

I’ve found the riddles I wrote several years ago to see which are usable…and it turns out I have absolutely no idea what some of the answers are or how to get them.

Seriously, what I wrote ages ago and must have thought were great, I now look at and think ‘how the heck am I supposed to solve this?!’

I’ve probably got to spend longer now figuring out my own riddles than I will spend finishing off the code to get the stupid thing online.

And then there’s another 3 or 4 projects to be getting along with…

Formula One Gold

I’ve finally finished updating all of the drivers, races and teams in the Forumla One predictions league on the forum so there won’t be anymore blank spaces instead of images.

I’m still undecided as to what prize to give out this year, but am tempted to buy the Ferrari F1 Racer 1:8 from the Lego store to offer up to the gold medalist.

We’re only a few races in – so plenty of time to enter if you haven’t already.
