The Big Bang Theory

January 3, 2009

The Big Bang Theory The Big Bang Theory is my current favourite sitcom; this sharp comedy centers around two hyperintelligent misfits, Sheldon and Leonard, who live together opposite Penny – a beautiful blonde waitress. The duo along with their other socially inept friends – Howard, a perverted wanna-be-womaniser, and his best friend and complete contrast in character Rajesh, an Indian who cannot talk around women unless drunk – work in various prodigious fields of science and are all complete nerds.

Sheldon, played by Jim Parsons, is the real star of the show – fantastic body acting and mannerisms similar to David Hyde Pierce’s ‘Niles Crane’ make watching him a delight.

I’m Batman!

The Big Bang Theory is not scared of alienating it’s audience at all, and happily throws in all manner of scientific and geek related jokes, ranging from the Doppler Effect to Lolcats – whether you understand them fully or not doesn’t matter, as each episode delivers regardless of your nerditude and knowledge of cult sci-fi shows or complex scientific theories.

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock

Sure, on some levels it’s like you’re watching a cross between Friends and Beauty and the Geek; the plots aren’t overly imaginative and and in places the scripting seems a little forced – but persevere and you’ll warm quickly to the well defined characters and find yourself coming back for more and more. It took three or four episodes for me to become hooked, and from thereon it’s taken over as my most loved sitcom currently on TV…and with Season 1 arriving on DVD later this month you have no excuse to miss out on it.

As you know, I’ve never got into the BBT. I guess I watch it and see just another generic comedy show from the US (see also Joey). Your man there does look hilarious though!

Got something to say?
