Resolve this…

Is it too early to talk resolutions?

Last year I made two, if I remember correctly.

1) Cook more (rather than just heating up food).
2) Sort out finances.

so…one year on?

1) Done – I cook quite frequently…though it’s usually 1 pot cooking. The last thing I made was a lovely poussin, with carrot and green beans and mash, deliciously steamed/boiled in red wine and vegetable stock. That’s where I got my oil burn.
2) Well…done more than last year I guess. I now have a credit card…but keep forgetting to use it. I would have about £4k in savings too, but managed to spend £2k of that having to move flat and pay deposit, etc so that’s back up to around 2k and, having never saved before in my life I think that’s alright for my first year.

And now for 2009?

I wan’t going to make any for this coming year…but have decided on one.

I want to spend 3 hours per week on webcontent for my various sites. That’s less than half an hour a day and so should be attainable, whether it’s an entry for this blog, or an entry for one of my various other blogs, or updating MENEFT, or anything else – 3 hours a week is very little, and very achievable and will certainly aid with progressing my online presence.

I’m making about $100 a year with Google adsense, all of that pretty much coming from one site – and I want to increase this where possible, which can easily be done by simply doing the content. Start off with $200 for the next year and see how that goes I guess.

Three things I learnt today

1) a small splash of hot oil one day, can turn into a huge-ass blister the next day. Much seepage.
2) when you lack inspiration with gift buying, over compensating by spending more on said gift does not make it any less crap.
3) ‘funeral crashers‘ really do exist, as Terrance Jolley is ousted by the lovely Victoria Coren – well worth a read, as Jolley responds to the article highlighting just how odd he is.

If you were going to splurge on a present for yourself (something I have been very good at over the last few weeks when I should be buying gifts for others), which of the following appeals to you the most?

1) Canon EOS 450D – SLR Camera – Retail of about £650 with extra lens

2) Vuzix iWear – 3D 62″ television glasses – £200 – allows me to look like a knob in my own home!

3) iPod Touch – 32GB – £275

iphone on Orange

December 15, 2008 4 Comments

A couple of months ago it was annouced that the Apple iphone would be coming to the Orange network. As I’ve been with Orange for many years, and a lover of gadgety things, I was very pleased with this news – and though I have a long contract with my current HTC Touch, which is splendid – I would almost certainly have changed over.

So here we are in mid-December…and still no sign of the iphone coming to Orange in the UK anytime in the near future. Orange have managed to release the 3G version of the iPhone in Singapore, Malaysia and now Kenya. I didn’t even know you could get 3G in Kenya! Yet not here.

O2 are lucky for now – but soon they’ll lose their UK monopoly, and I’ll be much happier for it.

Unless I’ve found another toy to play with by then….
